I'm meeting with USF&W personnel 9 am Monday to discuss possibilities with 209 acres of my ranchland. There are 13 permanent wetlands, plus grasslands, native marsh, tree plantations and native woodlands. Wildlife food plots There is also 1/2 mile of open water shoreland from a 35 acre lake, I am the only property owner, the rest of the shore line is county road and some county woodland. About 1/4 mile of the shore would be considered prime lake shore buildable property
This property has tons of wildlife. Loons and Trumpeters annually nest successfully. To many Geese:rolleyes: Mallards, Teal and Wodducks on every pond. Deer, Turkey, Grouse and lots of furry critters. Eagles are an everyday sight with several nests nearby.

Sounds like paradise to me! You might get the nature conservancy to buy an easement, but allow current management, and allow for a deed restriction to control use 100 years from now. I heard some rumbling about the state buying easements in Minnesota too. Just another option. You've done a fantastic job. Any I hope you can make it happen for you and the property.

Beautiful! Sounds like you've put some time and $ into improving your land. Good for you:thumbsup:

I'm a bit envious right now MNMT. LOL

P.S.--I may stop by to give you a hand with thinning out those pesky waterfowl you've got roaming around there:D;)

Wow sounds like a great place to me and I'm sure the wildlife in the area thinks it's just home sweet home

I've talked with the Nature Conservancy. The lady sez NC is not doing anything in Northern MN at this time.:confused::rolleyes:

The USF&W is interested in it, I talked with the person in the Realty part of it. A Biologist has looked at the legal description, plate maps, and areal photos and will get a closer look one of these days. I guess.:rolleyes:

I've heard the the MN Land Trust might work, know anything about that?

Do not know much about MN options but I think the USFW no drain no fill easement is about the tops.

I met with a Biologist, They do have grasslands easements but not for Hubbard County. The grasslands easements more in western and southern MN.
They are doing wetland easements and mine sounds like it may be a priority.
I'm am losing interest, This all is so "governmenty"

Everything is MnMT. ;) Everything they have their hands in turns into a headache. Too much paper work and red tape. It's getting tough to do anything habitat. Can plant this, can't plant that, need a % of this over here, and a % of this over there, have to do this and that to burn, herbicide, a license for this and that with a price tag on it too, etc.

Just try to tough through it. In the end it will be worth it:)
