What grass is this?

Great post Bob. I like learning things like this and have encountered this grass several times. I think I call everything clover, koshia, and/or switchgrass.

the spikelet's (seeds)are too far apart for western wheat. They are also solitary. another trait. Tall wheat grows 3-7 feet tall.
Western wheat grows 1-2 1/2 feet, with the seed spike 2-6" in length.
Do you happen to know what that grass is? I seen it on a few CREP properties in SD.

Look at Kernza( perennial wheat) I don’t think that’s what you have but maybe. My brother in law has some of the land institutes test plots on his farm. His dad was big into it. It’s taller like that.
