Hunted around Hays Sat, Sun, and Monday. Tuesday morning we decided to go down to cheyenne bottoms and duck hunt.... About 5 mins before we get there, a 10 point jumps over a guard rail out of creek bottom right in front of me. Had nowhere to go, except in the creek, so I smashed him going 65, with my foot on the brakes. Got about as lucky as you can get hitting one going that fast. Stayed out of my raidiator and didn't come over the hood. We went and pulled my bumper out of my tire and continued on, somehow it didn't puncture my tire...

We drug him down into the ditch, because you better believe I was planning on coming back after the duck hunt to take a little momento from this guy. But by 1030 When we came back by someone had already beat me to it. didn't even get any pictures. So this will put a little damper on my hunting season..

After that went and had lunch with the boys from Illinois before they headed back across I-70. Then I figured I would head up and hunt the rest of the day just me and the dog. Ended up being the best hunt I had all weekend, just the dog and I, just the way I like it. We shot 2 roosters and 4 quail in an Hour or so. I'll get some picture up from the rest of our hunts soon. This is just what I have on my cell phone.

We had a pretty good hunt Sat ended up with 22 and a few quail. Sunday we only shot 9 birds, Monday it was just 3 of us and we ended up with 8. Tuesday Morning we shot 9 ducks, waxed a 10 point and then The solo numbers with the dog and I. Overall it was a great 4 days, can't say i was a huge fan of playing "Guide" for most of it, but the guys from Montana shot plenty of birds and had a blast. Same with the boys from Ill. And at least I got a pretty good hunt with my lab on Tuesday Evening. He was a rockstar all weekend. Saturday he out hunted both Brits that were with us (Yes I said that.. lol) got alot of beautiful flushes and retrieves. Sunday he had a good morning, but was pretty beat by mid day. So I sat him out a few fields Sunday evening and Monday morning. Tuesday he had a great day duck hunting and ran down every duck we shot, including a couple that dove on him for 10 mins. Tuesday he was on every bird we shot, and damn near pointed that covey of quail, and worked the couple singles up really well after that. VERY PROUD of him this past 4 days. Looks to be hitting his prime.

This is a picture of one of the brits digging a rooster out of a badger hole on Saturday. She would not quit, we stood over her for 15 mins, almost gave up on it, but she wouldn't stop. she ended up digging her way down to him and pulled him out, Wish I could have gotten that on video. Pretty impresive.

Sounds like a great trip for the most part. Congratulations:cheers:

I believe everything except the part about a lab out hunting some brits for an entire w/e. You must need some sleep;) Where was that big oaf of a lab when the bird was in the badger hole:D

I envy the chance you had to hunt alone w/ the dog. I'm about to do that for the first time this season over my Thanksgiving vacation and I just can't wait.

Sorry to hear that about your truck.

haha, he wouldn't have even fit in that hole.... She was a tiny brit. And no joke he found more bird then they did, flushed more birds in range, and had more retireves.... I was very proud of him. These brits weren't the best brits I've hunted behind. I guess they had some shock collar issues... They are both from Montana, and hadn't really been on Pheasants too much. Mostly grouse dogs... so I won't fault them too much, but they sure did screw us out of some birds.

And my truck... yeah there goes a good chunk of my Hunting fund.

Amazing Story

Nice story..I really like the brit goin after that rooster down the hole.

I carry a saw in the truck in case I hit a big deer.

Heck I can't hit one with the bow.. I may start using the truck. That would be warmer than my stands anyway! Hey if you need a good autobody guy in the metro who is reasonable PM me and I will give you his info. he fixes my hunting dents too.

Well from now until then its gonna change alot... we did pretty well out there yesterday

That's funny about the bird in the hole. I've been told a thousand times they will go into holes but I must admit I was always sceptical about it being true. Now I know, especially since she came out with the bird.
