There is a big pool of Arctic air that will make it's way South and arrive starting Sunday and saw that Tuesday may not get above zero in some places!!!!!:eek::eek:

That's good news

I'll be out there hunting on the 10th. Just trying to decide where to go. I may let the weather guide me :)

i am still waiting on that snow, just need it to hit sometime during the last 15 days of the season....hasn't been any or very little where i want to go as of yet.

Looks like Hays, which is one of my options, will have a little snow on my last day there, Wed the 12th. I'm kind of looking at Hays, Hugoton, Pratt/Greensburg, Dodge City, Meade

damn, that is a lot of ground to cover...hope you have some help and at least a brace of dogs.....have fun!

Heh

No I mean those are the areas I'm deciding between. I'll only hit one maybe 2 of them.

I'm gonna be up in the Meade area on the 12-15th. I hope we hit it right with the weather!

You crazy people and wanting arctic temps and snow. :D

I'll be inside where its warm if its crazy cold like this weekend. :)

I shoot more birds when its 40-60 out and a little damp so the dogs can smell. Id rather have the pheasants more scattered out rather than in a group of 30-100+

If it gets too cold (teens or lower) I dont enjoy being outside that much and I dont think the dogs can smell very well. If the dogs arent working the birds for me I dont enjoy it as much.

RJT, I would stay south towards the Liberal area. I haver hunted Hays and liberal areas last week and there are WAY more birds in the Liberal area. Hunted all private land and we only got a few birds around hays where as the 3 of us limited out in Liberal for 2 days and saw more quail.

Damn you let the cat out of the bag and NOAA is calling for accumulating snow Sat nite and Sun. Oh well, we may need assistance fighting off all those pesky birds.

If that's the case, late next week, after it starts to warm back up (20-30) might be good. It would be nice to see some snow on the ground.

darn, i am going to miss out...4" of snow, 25 mph winds, -10....perfect, i would give anything to be out there during the storm!

That's when I'll be there! Yay!

I'm not seeing the exact same weather pattern as of yet, but you can bet I'll be out there if it happens...

Two things I look for this time of yr: either next butt-freezin C-O-L-D morning (BRRHHH) immediately after a snowstorm or warmer-weather w/birds-dispersed & a stiff headwind (both equally to the hunters' advantage)- otherwise at this point, late-season PHD hunter-educated birds win every time!

I will be in/and around Dodge City from Friday 14 January thru Monday 17 January for my last hoorah of this season....

I am hoping that the cold weather stays true thru that weekend, maybe with some precip...however I just want it to stay C O L D!!!

Two reasons:
1) keeps the roads froze, less mud and especially easier on the dogs when it stays froze

2) colder air/weather bunches the birds up and makes scenting better

Dang, I can see it all coming together perfect now - I'm gonna miss out on another one of the best late-season days of the year Mon!!! :(

My son will be getting his 2nd round of chemo on that day & I'll be getting some tests at the doc too - guess some things just aren't meant to be...

Been out 3 days so far this yr ( a far cry from the "once-a-wk" I was originally shootin for). Sure hope I can find a way to get in at least one or two more days afield be4 it's over for another year! Oh well, bigger fish to fry right now...

Git 'em boys if you can while the gittin's good!!!
