Waterproof Upland Pants?

I could use a new pair of pants. Top priority is that they are waterproof and, of course, briar resistant. I hate walking around in the morning with wet legs and “water resistant” doesn’t cut it for me. Being that it’s off season there may be some sales. Not interested in chaps.

Any ideas? Anyone wear the Pyke Dakota? I currently have the LL Bean tech pants and they have been good but the fit is so so for my build. Thanks!
 
I wore Pyke Dakota all last season. The whole pant isn't waterproof, just the facing on the front of the legs and up to almost the knee on the back. Most of my hunting is in Kansas, which is drier than Minnesota for sure and also most of east-river SD. I hate "wet leg" days too, and these pants did well for me on that front, no perfect but much better than what they replaced. On the other end of the spectrum, I noticed them being a little "sweaty" on the warmer, drier days, especially under the facing. Depending on where you hunt, that may not be an issue for you. I really like the fit and the stretchiness. On the whole I'm very happy with them now. We'll see if they last long enough to justify the price.
 
It is tough to find waterproof pants that are also briar resistant. I got a pair of these to wear under my briar resistant pants this year. They are under $45.

I used to wear jeans under my brush pants once the weather turns colder (shorts under them before). I switched from jeans to the above pants part way through the winter. On warmer days, they did get a little warm from time to time, but they did keep the water off my skin. They breathe pretty well too.

I can't recommend wearing them when it is warmer, but I also get really warm, so it is possible they might not be too warm for others. It is also possible you could wear them without real brush pants over the top. I just don't know how well they'd do at briar protection.

I didn't notice any problems with bending my legs, going over or under fences, etc., so they probably stretch well.

I would rather the zippers were horizontal instead of vertical, but they did stay zipped for me.

Oh, and they do sell them in an orange color, if you want to prevent getting shot in the legs. :)

Might not be what you are looking for if you want an all-in-one pants, but thought I'd throw them out there. That reminds me, I'll probably order another pair to have a spare.
 
I wear these from First Lite and like them alot. They aren't completely waterproof but no bird pant is no matter what a company says on their website.

Unless you're wanting to wear rain gear with Gore Tex or some old fashioned Helly Hansons, you're going to get a bit wet if the grass is soaked.

Looking at the First Lite pants that @Munster927 posted, and seeing how they come with the DWR (Durable Water Repellent) applied, I am reminded that I also apply the following to my brush pants (and used to apply to my jeans when I wore them underneath). It can wash off over time, and doesn't make them completely waterproof, but definitely repels water better than doing nothing.

I soak mine in the sink and then put in the dryer. If you use a washing machine to apply it, don't allow the rinse cycle.

This can be used on DWR garments that have lost their protection over time too.

Can't imaging hunting pheasants with two pairs of pants on.

Jeans most of the season.

If the grass is damp, I wear Cabela's goretex pants or hunts early spots with shorter grass. Those pants are usually replaced with jeans by 11 or noon.

Knee high rubber boots removes the need for waterproof pants on many walks.

I just found a pair of fleece lined technical pants on Amazon... actually purchased many different pairs and returned all but the one I like the most. These pants were more for being outside when temps are cold, but they quickly became my go to pheasant hunting pants when the temps are below 28F or there is some snow on the ground.

I ended up getting a pair of Pyke Dakotas. Initial impressions are that they are a fairly trim cut which are no problem for my chicken legs. But if you have tree trunks for thighs they may be tight. Look at their size guide also.

If anyone is interested Pyke has a steep discount on the Dakotas right now. You’ll probably never find them at a better price.

I ended getting both the dakota and tongass because of the sale prices basically 2 for 1. You are correct if you have large thighs these will be tight.
