Wanted: Semi auto 16 gauge

Hi George!

Enjoying sunny AZ? Just returned from SD yesterday and found the area I hunt slim for birds - only there for three day's. Beautiful weather, actually too warm as the birds were scattered a bit.
Have a question for you: I bought a new Bng A5 20 ga. and really love the gun. When I patterned the gun, 60% were high, 40 low. I learned to shoot right at the bird, pulling ahead a bit. Can a different choke change the pattern? 50-50? Currently using the choke that came with the gun...

Your thoughts?

Jon
Honestly Jon, I don't know. Never used any chokes but the ones that came with the gun. Guess all you can do is try one.

A different choke probably won't change your pattern. Most guys preferer a 60-40 pattern. I've never noticed much difference. If anything, it's faster on a straight away yet won't matter on a crosser. Don't let it get in your head. Just shoot it a lot and if it makes a difference, your brain will take care of it.

A choke won’t change the 60/40 patterning. However, you can change shims in the stock to help lower point of impact to get the 60 a little lower and function more like a 50/50.

Can't load any more shims in this gun and I have the stock pitched quite a bit; I just wanted a bit more pellets at the bird vs flying above. I'll admit I'm changing my aim lower - takes lots of practice. Hard to change 75 years of shooting! Still, the most difficult challenge is getting a good mount, esp. with winter duds on.
