TriStar Brittany SxS vs CZ Ringneck SxS

Well I'm not Uncle Buck but about 2 years or so ago, I was looking for a SxS I looked long and hard at the Tristar Brittany. I discussed it with my hunting buddy, he bought one in a 28 gauge and I got a Savage Milano 28 gauge. He got the Brittany at Cabalas on Sale for 799.00. He loves it and has had no problems with it at all. I have shot it and it is a very nice little gun. The Brittany I think is now a discontinued by Tristar but still carry a 5 year warranty. They are made as I remember in Spain By Z. Hermanos. The CZ are made in Turkey and I would not have a Turkey made gun in my gun cabinet. I know some shooters that have had them. I just bought a CZ Ringneck SxS. (12ga) I like the gun. I put a different butt pad on it and a sling. But I have only shot a case a shells threw it and have had no promblem's. I also found out that benelli choke tubes are the same so it's easy to buy extras. a friend of mine bought a CZ over under for trap shooting two years ago and has had no trouble with his either.
I know nothing of the TriStar.

I picked up a lot of the Tri-Star Spanish made doubles but never bought one. Many had Churchill or round knob stocks which are not to my taste, and I am not a fan of all that Fleur De Lais checkering. Having said that I thought they were at a pretty good price before they all went in Mitchell and Owatanna Cabela's.
I actually do have a Brittany from H. Zabala that American Arms imported. It is a true sidelock and much different re fit and finish. I have shot the crap out of it since about 1992 and many are the pheasants that have fallen before it. 20ga. and I sure like carring it around. I did have to replace one pin and an extractor pin. I was really suprised re the spring because Gary's gunsmith only charged $50. Work on sidelocks usually cost a lot more than that.
The bottom line is the Zabala guns are decent for the $ tho certainly not "Spanish best". Other than a Uggie, you will not find a new, quality Spanish double under $3,500. If you want to see if you like a sxs, the Tri-Star should let you test the waters without getting in too deep.

You will see alot of old Spanish sxs on the racks at Cabela's, some the cheap side of AYA from many years back. They might be ok, but if it were me I would strike a deal with Cabela's that I could exchange it for any other in 30days and try it out. These could be functionally good guns despite the rough appearence, poor fit and finish. They are virtually all round knob and have sling attachments.

Buck, I should probably have stated that I want a single trigger. I've never had a double trigger and don't want to try and use one now. That really limits the 16 ga. SxS's available. I know that the Merkel 1620's have single triggers but I really don't want to spend that much. That's whey the Brittany and the Ringneck are high on the list. It's not a gun I'm going to shoot a lot. A little pheasant hunting and maybe use it some at the NSTRA trials.

You start using one and you will never put down! Bought my Grulla in 1964 when I was 16. Shot that gun for 37 years before I retired it.
