Top 5!

Are the birds wild in Hawaii? It's my understanding that all the hunting operations have to stock one bird for every bird harvested on their land. I imagine they have a strong breeding population though since there are no predators except the ferrets.

Another sleeper is Mexicali I believe, if it were easier to get your dog there and back I would've already booked a Mexicali hunt.

Yep MT F,W&P plants pen raised pheasants. They want every Non Res hunter to get a rooster or two. :)

About the tally for roosters harvested annually in MT. I know for a fact they didn't ask me how many roosters I killed in MT, and I'm quite sure the didn't ask Cal?
SO, the estimates are OFF.
Would the correct estimates put MT in the top 5, I don't think so.

They didn't ask me either, it doesn't seem like MT is willing to put in the population estimate efforts like some of its neighbors, I put it in the top five for uniqueness of the land, a lot of places seem like they wouldn't even have birds, but here they live. I hope CRP comes back in a big way in all the states, it truly is what is needed to have huge numbers of birds.

Yeah, Mexicali is something I'd like to try.

I saw lot's of pheasants on the island of Maui. We saw good number of them on our way up a large volcano--grazing areas. On Maui, all the pheasants I saw were the ringneck type though I suppose there could have been other varieties.

As AtMur stated, the big island has a nice variety.

I'm basing my answers solely off of all of my research: I have logged hours behind the phone, keyboard, and newspapers doing as much research as possible, as I'm planning a 10 day trip for the 2015 season.
