started off strong today...first WALK IN area Ace pointed a covey and a single ...then I spent about 3 hours driving around for looking at other Walk Ins that didn't have what I wanted and were LOTS of others I couldn't get to...only hunted 2 other small ones that didn't pan out...then headed home. Had a great hunt last couple days

great pictures and good looking dog . thanks for sharing with all . wish i was out there as season draws closer to the end . treasure all the time afield with your hunting companions they will be gone before they should .

thanks....yes...very true. I lost one at same age this guy is now...was VERY hard...I try to spend as much time in the field as I can. strange things happen...who knows...this one may out live me...you just never know

Ace looks mischeviously happy as he's about to knock your gun over in the first picture... Did you miss some birds today or something?

Glad you had a memorable trip, but it's unfortunate you never found good gravel. I'm a lot more choosy about roads when I'm driving solo too.

THANKS guys....yes he bout knocked over the gun...ain't gonna hurt that thing though...its dents have dents...lol stock is cracked...and you should see the chunk of wood missing out of the butt...that used to be my pride and joy that gun...bought in 1993...had it on lay a way and made payments on it till the very proud day I took it home....I have ALOT of memories with that gun. I actually am hoping to have it re-finished over the summer...I will have to get back my SKB M100 that I lent out about 10 years ago and it never found its way back to me... I talk to the guy all the time and he still has it...just a little difficult since he's in PA and I'm in IL but we'll get it figured out....yea I was kinda freaked out on alot of those roads...my Rav4 is REALLY not the vehicle for that stuff but she didn't let me down....I thought for sure a few times I was done for...AND of course I hardly ever had cell service when I was in the worst spots....the last day I was alot more careful...

Yup, nice gun. I like the superlight so much that I have one in 12 and 20. The 20 is great for hunting grouse here in NC and I have taken many a pheasant with it in KS too. The 12 is newer to my corral; more lead to toss out but as I have found out, if your on the 20 works just as well :thumbsup:if your off the 12 just weighs more:eek:

I'd really like to have another 28ga as a quail gun....trading mine off was one of the worst deals EVER. :(

I have been using my 28 for Pheasants for the past few years and has done the job better then one would think! Zero wounded or lost!

I used to use mine on stocked pheasant but I never did on wild. they are quite capable though if birds are only shot over points.

i have fallen in love with the little 28ga its my go to gauge of choice . it does its job if i do mine , no recoil and well can carry way more shells than ever needed in todays birdless feilds , but i have found a few loads that will give the big bore guns a run for there money on the long tails , i just find carring a less than five pond gun a joy as ive gotton well lets just say wiser. i shoot just abouit every upland game bird with mine.

awesome....what model do you have? I'd love to get a Citori like mine in 28ga but that won't happen as I won't have that much $ to spend. I will probably have to get something cheap

ONEBALL,

I hunt only with a 28 now. I would be interested in what loads your using.

I like the 28 gauges that are actually made on a 28 frame. I know like the Citori is on a 20 frame. The Berettas are made on a 28 frame, and man do they feel good in the hand.

well I hate to admit it but I currently own 8 28ga's all of them different ,my go to gun is a benelli ultra light at just under 5lbs , but have several over and unders as well my favorite is a Weatherby Athena grade 3 that I had Simmons guns in Olathe do a high post rib job on , I have a franchi that I had them do the same high rib on and they point and shoot like a dream, I have several Browning?s and just found a new un shot super-light with 24" barrels that is a quail unlimited gun that I just had to have ,I hope to be shooting it this weekend if the weather allows , I have a covey or two that are 30plus birds strong that I would like to harvest one or two more outa for the Dogs. my wife tells me I have a Gun addiction and well maybe I do but I?m not as bad as her and her shoe problem , I tell her all the time that I think I?m going to work on a Dog addiction next , don?t think you can ever have too many :D Rascal my verry first 28 ga was a Tristar auto , aroung 500.00 have litterally shot thousands of shells threw it and ZERO issues, still have it and still shoot it for the money a really good value ,

a 28 ga. is all i use from geese and turkey down to whatever. my current load for pheasants is out of ballistic products and is the following,

fiocchi hulls and primers.
little gun powder at 32 gr.
wad is their hv 28
psi = 12000
speed is 1540
7/8 oz shot and i use copper and fold crimp

check out the ballistic prod. web site

cheers

also use the above load ,its a great load but its a thumper form behind the gun too , have also used there loads in one once load but dont think they pattern as well as the 7/8 , anymore I shoot 5/8oz at quail.
