Tis the season and I saw plenty this weekend. Here is a new one my vet emailed me about.

Spring has sprung! It's flea, tick and mosquito season!

It's that time of year to start your flea, tick and heartworm prevention. Our recommendation is a minimum of 9 months (April-December) or year around protection for your pet.
We are excited to introduce our most current tick and flea control recommendation for dogs. The new product is PARASTAR PLUS (fipronil and cyphenothrin). The deciding factors in making this recommendation are safety, efficacy, superior performance, and our feeling that this product represents the best medicine for our patients and clients.
PARASTAR PLUS is applied topically (dogs only) to the skin between the shoulder blades once a month, is waterproof and starts killing ticks in as little as one hour. We believe the more rapid tick kill could aid in the prevention of tick transmitted diseases such as: Lyme, Anaplasma, Ehrlichia, etc. We continue to monitor the changing market place in regards to flea/tick products and believe PARASTAR PLUS represents the best choice for you and your dog. Our veterinarians and staff are excited to discuss the many advantages PARASTAR PLUS can offer!
Don't forget about your feline friends! We also offer flea and tick prevention for them.
Stop by today and pick up your preventative products. You can also call your order in ahead of time, and we will be happy to get it ready! (320) 762-8112
Sincerely,
The Doctors and Staff at

oh man, just when I think I've declared the all clear, a day or two later I find on of those buggers.

Deer ticks are already out here in the arrowhead of Minnesota. My young male Wiam has had two stuck on him already. They are a hardy tick that can be found on a dog or person right up to snow on the grown in the fall and as soon as there's grass showing in the spring. I HATE THEM. we never had them here until the last 10 years or so. Now they are thick.

Had 4 on me and 2 on each of my dogs already.

I'm in the San francisco bay area and I've already pulled a half dozen off the dog in the last 3 months. If that is 'off season', I am SO not looking forward to spring/summer. oh boy. I'm finding myself not taking her out where she really needs to be running because of it. I'll have to look into this stuff too.

I took the dogs running yesterday afternoon in a public area by one of the lakes. I didn't get in the grass and weeds a lot, stuck mainly to the road, but after I got home I picked about a dozen ticks off myself. I did find a couple crawling on the dogs but none attached. Obviously the Frontline Plus I put on them about 3 weeks ago is working. And one of my dogs has been wet multiple times as I was dunking her in the water tanks before and after each run at a NSTRA trial a week and a half ago. Think I need some Frontline for myself! :)
