Thinking about getting a new puppy!

Draht

Go with the DD. You'll never look back. I have two of them. The drive they display is incredible whether upland or waterfowl. They are exceptional dogs in the field and at home. I won't ever have another breed. And yes, the beards are cool.

I don't know much about the DD, so I'd go with the chessie. They are great dogs as is most any other breed.......Bob

Get what dog fits your style and type of hunting. I hunt with a German Shorthair Pointer and wouldn't own/hunt with any other dog. A GSP might not be your style, my friends brother had a chesapeake and let me tell you what, there was never a down/crippled bird that was missed, she got thenm everytime. She loved the water also but he didn't waterfowl hunt. Good luck with your decision.

I have a 9 year old chessie that I raised from a pup. She is great in the water. It dosen't get to cold, to rough, or to long to make her quit.

Chessies do often take a lot more time to train as they seem to think they know a better way than we do but they are a loyal and obedient dog to one who takes the time to train them well.

Though I never trained her to quarter or hunt upland I have hunted her in Kansas on pheasant and she picked up the quarter and search very quick. And ANY bird knocked down anywhere close was found and brought to me.

Have always heard good things about DDs but have no experience. You'll just have to do your homework and satisfy your heart.
