The Season Continues!

Dugan seems to be doing great this year for you. I think you have been getting on birds a lot when you get out. The area you're at looks nice. Too bad the rain came. I wish I had more time to get to other places in PA. I do plan to travel more in the late season.

My father in law came down today and we were lucky enough to not have any rain. We started at the gamelands but we didn't have much luck there. The area gets hit hard by the locals plus visitors from MD, VA and DC. After not having much luck here we decided to hit the club closer to home. Things went better here and we put up 5 roosters and a hen. We both ended up with our 2 bird limit. I'll be out again tomorrow and hopefully things go well.

Yep, we've had action every time out this year, not sure how many states you can go to and say that. Hey...talk about Dugan, what about your boys, your freezer must be getting pretty full.

May head up to Camp tomorrow for grouse, not sure yet. This pheasant hunting has been fantastic, but I need to get camp ready for deer season.

Good luck tomorrow!

Way to go! Good to see Drake has healed up well.

Thanks he's getting there another good reason for quick hunt would of been sooner if I didn't miss the cockbird that went up before I had my gun loaded. We would of been done before the stock truck came.So a quick rest watched them stocked stayed out of peoples way got another hen and we left. Saw Mr. Roosterslammer there with a group. Didn't have a chance to say hi I had to get back to the office.

Sure has been a good year so far, and there's more time left!

:eek:RoosterSlammer following the truck....no wonder his shooting has improved! :D

I thought about heading north for grouse tomorrow but with bear season starting I decided it was best to stay closer to home. Good luck this weekend.

25- Glad to see your dog is back at it. Is Drake done with his testing?

I have not seen a stocking truck this year while out hunting. I did see one in the York area after it released all its birds.

I met up with a couple friends at the gamelands to see if we could find some birds. In less than one minute the dogs were on point on a wood edge. I walked in to try to flush the birds out to my friends but the birds decided to flush a different direction. Two roosters flushed and I shot and saw one flutter down. The other flew at me and I missed him. The bird that I thought I hit ran and then flushed again and he flew just fine. Shortly after this the dogs had another point and I missed a rooster on a crossing shot. He was moving fast and I missed him. After this my one friend got a call from work and he had to leave. We kept working and we went to a different area with more hedge rows. We ended up getting two birds in the game bag and went to a different area. We pushed another rooster out of the woods that got away from us. We hunted for another hour without finding anything. When we worked back to the truck we were able to put one more bird in the air and he found his way into my friends vest. The day ended with 9 roosters flushed, 3 in the bag and 1 hen flush.

We saw some trappers who set some traps, duck hunters, geese hunters and a couple packs of beagles chasing bunnies. It was a good day.

Way to go Brian, sounds like a perefect Saturday in the Pa. uplands. Man... I hope people are taking advantage of this great hunting.

I just got in from the trip to Camp, it's a 3 1/2 hour drive. I missed a real easy straight away shot on a grouse. It was the only one I saw, but I couldn't hunt that long, I had to fix the electric before deer season. I also flushed a woodcock about 30 yards from the cabin, they seem to be hanging around longer than usual.

Saw a HUGE buck rub by HollowWatcher's stand !

We all miss some easy shots. I missed the easy birds on Saturday and hit the difficult ones with my first shot. The less I think the better I do.

Good luck at deer camp. I'll be hunting local on some private land and should see some deer. Hopefully you guys see the buck from the deer stand.

I have really enjoyed hunting in PA this autumn.

I have been able to shoot several birds over my 10 month old setter pup. And several more over older dogs.

I am a native of the Commonwealth and often hear friends back home criticizing the PGC. If they only knew how lucky they are!

They think I am nuts because I buy a non res PA license to hunt birds instead of crawling up a tree to hunt OH deer.

Sir... You are right on the money! There is a very popular web site where a few characters with multiple screen names do nothing but criticize the PGC and anything they do. You are right, we are very lucky indeed.

Glad you are having a good season and that the pup is getting plenty of action.

Me three, Very very thankful I live near PA. I love hunting birds with my dog. Ohio doesn't do anywhere near enough to support upland birds, especially here in the northeastern part of the state.

Thats great to hear, I'm sure members of the PGC visit these sites and love hearing that their hard work and decisions are appreciated.

Darn cold, heavy rain:mad: I have the chance to hunt the last 5 days of the season and the weather is messing things up. I don't mind hunting in the snow (I actually enjoy it) but cold and heavy rain is not fun. Hopefully things get better late on Wednesday.

You're right, it was bitter cold this morning 11/26. I hunted one of our favorite Co-Ops. This Rooster was hard earned,he used every trick in the book. Then it started snowing, then sleet, then the wind picked up. The kind of weather any Springer loves. It's supposed to be heavy rains tomorrow, I'll see if I can sneak out for a while. Good luck if you guys get out!

Good job getting that single. I bet he learned a few tricks since being released and gave a few dogs and hunters the slip.

That's for sure! I don't know this birds ancestory, but I can tell you a younger pup would have never got him in the air. I didn't time it, but it seemed like a very long time from when he first hit scent to flush. It wasn't long straight runs either, 30 yards turn, 20 yards turn, run into a hedge row, leave it and into some multi flora, then into a swampy area. Multiple attempts to turn him back resulted in slipping out the side. So yep, he had done this before!

It's heavy winds and rain right now. Dugan and I are ready to go, so if we can find a window in the weather were gone!
