Which gun is most common carried by the American Bird hunter?

Are we talking about what action style or Brand and model?

By sheer numbers probably the pump gun with Remington 870 topping the list. Browning Citori probably being the most common O/U.

I'll bet it's a pump. My first two shotguns were pumps but sold them both to by a Citori. Now I shoot a side by side.

I like something that is light and shoulders well. winchester sx3 20 ga field, 2/34 #5 lead kents with a mod choke.

I think he was asking what BRAND is most common, not what each of us like or don't like.

Pretty hard question to find an answer for. If I had to guess I would say a toss up between Remington and Browning with Mossberg maybe a close third. These manufacturers have been around for quite a while and have models that are affordable and widely available for the average person, hence their popularity.

I didn't look it up, so the date might be off, but Remington 870's sales had topped TEN million by 2009.

Can't say how many are bird hunters', but probability is it is number one.
