The EP is getting skinny!

When I picked him up he was plump, not fat but what I think of as just about right. Been running him everday for 2 weeks or more for an hour or more each day (may have missed 3 days). He is getting in shape but also getting thin. Hopefully he will settle in to an eating habit. I feed twice a day with my other dogs and always have. He was used to once a day and I don't think he has caught on to the twice a day deal just yet. Maybe I will back off of the exercise for him to about 3 days a week. We have been getting into a few birds on our walks which is nice and also shot some pigeons over him last week I think it was. We are getting ready!

My BLF stays just right in my opinion, but I haven't been running her nearly as hard as him.

The old Vizsla has the mentality of worker smarter not harder so his weight isn't a problem LOL!

GSP is getting FAT

My boys had been wanting chores to do so they can make some candy $, so I let 'em feed the dogs. At first I monitored the amounts very closely, but they were doing a fine job so I only watched from the window while they went out. I noticed the dogs getting heavier. I talked to the boys about over-feeding and they said, "But dad, Tate and Duke are so happy when we feed them, we thought feeding them more would make them happier." I let 'em know that they're happy now but they're gonna pay the price come bird season:rolleyes:

So, I've been running them a lot lately. The GWP is looking a little better but the GSP is still too heavy. I've even been filling the bucket for the boys each night to be sure of the amount they're getting. Last night I noticed that Tate (GSP) is getting into the old brit's pen and finishing off what she leaves in her bowl each night:mad: I fixed the hole immediately but my dog is still too fat for bird season. We'll be out every night as well.

Back off on the running a bit. A dogs body (us humans too) need time for rest and recuperation. You need to ramp up exercise gradually over a period of time or you run the risk of injury. Anyway, that is probably why he is looking skinny. You can slowly increase his food rations as long as you don't feed before exercise. Allow at least 3 hours if you must feed before.
