The wheat may not be the best in some places, but the harvest is putting grain on the ground for the birds and that's always a good thing.

I spoke to my farmer friend this morning up in Washington Co. to make sure he dodged the bad storms yesterday...he did. He mentioned that his wheat is heading up nicely but it is not as bountiful as last year. The corn is coming in very nicely! He is hearing the quail calling but has not seen any pheasant chicks yet, he noted that they still have good cover to hide in.
These are good reports from the "man in the know"! Looking forward to getting out there this fall:)

Great news!

Wolfcreek, I lived NE of Washington in '85-'86. Had some phenomenal hunting then. The next decade it took a dive. Fine country, more cover by accident than many places have on purpose. I pestered the birds as well as deer, coons, beaver, coyotes, waterfowl, and channel cat. A great place to start a job and family!

The wheat is all cut here in Sumner County for the most part. I did see a big old roster today in new wheat stuble what a sight. The sun reflected off his chest and the stuble. It would have made a pretty picture but I was in my Drivers Ed car and with a student driver so we just drove past. The picture is just in my "mind's eye."
