Thanksgiving Hunts

Well got the dogs out on our annual trip up to PA for Thanksgiving. The cover this year is amazingly thick and overgrown! I stand 6-9 and the grass is taller than me, the briars and bramble are waist high and the woods are thick. It was definitely earn your pheasant hunting.
Most folks I came across hadn't seen a bird and were complaining about the area not being stocked. It was tough, thick, nasty, cover. My dogs worked areas were we always see birds and nothing, so given the cover we worked them twice. We produced 5 hens on the day. 2 of which I had a good shot at and missed. The first in the woods, the second I hesitated because I wasnt sure if I would spray the highway.

Second day was more of the same, but with 10 times the hunters. So we hunted the thick woods and briars. Got up a rooster lined it up and Boom! Bark exploded. Came away empty handed and dogs and I licking our wounds from the thorns. Saw 7 birdds over two days, amazed by my dogs, and enjoyed the time in the field.

Happiness!

Dave,

That's a very fine hunt, much like it was in the old days this time of the season.Back then it was hard to find wild birds with just a few short days before the season ended. I think Cali and Lady and of course yourself did an excellent job finding those birds! Kudos to you and your pups.
Thanks for sharing!
