While check my camera in Hole in the mountain park yesterday I crossed a blood trail I followed it backward to see where the blood started and the snow showed chunks of hair then the blood started.
The first pic is after they attacked it while eating grass in the open at hole in the mountain park . It got away and ran a 100 yds then they caught it again and tore its stomach open it got away and ran another 100 yds where they caught it and finshed it off in the camping area by the chalet . They must have been scared off because they left it without eating more of it. It was still warm when I found it. I put a camera on it but nothing came back last night. They don't like to eat frozen meat. Not sure if Photobucket will let these stay up on their site.









 
yeesh, mother nature can be brutal, Those are some damn big yotes, How many do you think there were?

2 Coyotes can be quite lethal -- to deer, livestock, dogs (even BIG dogs). I know they have a place in the natural scheme of things, but I still don't allow them around.

Yep... they're pretty sneaky critters that most people don't see and many don't even know are around. I have a client I met years ago.... found out he hunted them (in a group) and he told me they shot 34 that season. I said WOW, that's crazy (thinking that was a big number)... he said "yep, fewest we shot in years." :eek:
There are incredible numbers down here too. I've called in a few and shot a few... we need a few more hunters on them down this way.

Uplandhtr... first coyote I ever shot was a 34 lb female... later found out she was a decent size coyote for around here. They look a lot bigger than they really are... 40-45 lbs is a BIG coyote. The few I shot were all under 40.... the prettiest one I shot was a little male that looked a lot bigger than the 29lbs he was.
 
Only shot a few over the years. Some were called in at night, but the biggest was shot opening day of dear season years ago. Weighed 48 lbs on the taxidermist scale.
 
If it hadn't been for the dog, I would've walked in to a big one this year in the field. He was with in 5 feet of me. 4 shots of 4 shot steel and he limped away. I can only hope he died later on. I have read that predator hunting couldn't put a dent in them. They reproduce too fast.
 
That's a pretty safe bet, VZ. 'Yotes are prolific breeders & they are survivors. I thin coyotes every year for the same folks & in the same areas that I have for years with no noticeable drop in numbers from year to year. Around here, coyotes can be hell on new calves & fawns. Around rural hobby farms, chickens, dogs & cats are the prey.
 
They get hunted around here very hard. One group of guys kill over 100 just about every year and the numbers dont decrease year to year. the ones left just have more pups and it starts all over again. Pulled my game camera cards yesterday and yotes on each one of them.
 
We formed a predator district a few years ago, which means we can hire an airplane hunter. We have shot as many as 711 in just our county. The following year we shot 240 so I think it made a difference.
