On November 16, 2013 the Susquehanna Valley Chapter of Pheasants Forever held it's fourth Veterans Hunt at Mason Dixon Hunting Farm. Everybody enjoyed some donuts, learned about PF, received a certificate from the PA House of Representatives and then headed to the fields to hunt. Everybody got a lot of shooting in and each veteran was able to harvest a few birds. It was a great day for everybody!

Another great Post Brian, you're knocking it out of the park!

With all you do for the youth and then again the Vets, your two young boys certainly have a good role model.

What did you think of the cover and birds there?

Awesome! How long are the barrels on the guy in the pics SxS? Looks like a snappy little quail gun.

Awesome

Great for you to share your dogs and time with Vets!

The smiles on their faces says it all! Well done! Well done!:)

Quailhound- I'm not sure how long (or short) his gun was but I do know it was a good bit shorter than my Citori that has 26 inch barrels. I should have asked him when I was thinking of how short it was.

FLDBRED- the cover is good. It is a mix of sorghum, a little corn, switchgrass, other grasses and woods. We can usually find some extra birds when we hunt there.

Here is some video from the hunt:

If you look close in the above video you can see the bird drop at the tree line. This is the long retrieve that Blitz made.

The cover in the video is the lightest that we hunted. Some of the guys needed to walk where it was easiest.

I should have mentioned that the vets represented the Army (X2), Marines and Coast Guard. One of the hunters was in Viet Nam and he was also my football coach in 9th grade.

Hey...that's some real nice dog work, nice find and retrieve on that last video!

Are these your first bird dogs? If not, any other breeds?

Thanks for the comments.

These are my first bird dogs and I trained them myself with help from friends as gunners. But I pretty much just try not to screw them up. Blitz is just a good natural retriever and I'm thankful of that.
