stopping a dog on scent to keep in gun range

We had a thread going a few months ago regarding stopping a dog on a pheasant to keep the dog from getting out of gun range but when I went to look for the thread I realized it had been closed :(.
Since I just got this video the other day of me stopping my dog on scent thought I would just post it on a new thread.

Interesting video...your dog would be way out of range for my limited shooting abilities. You were fortunate to have the bird flush towards the shooter, otherwise a bit out of range?

Very energetic dog - what breed?

I try to keep her from putting birds up further than about 30 yards but in this video she took the scent and I stopped her closer to 40 yards from the gun we then walked up to about 25/30 yards before I released her which is considered a very reasonable distance for our gunners (even if the bird would have flown straight away).
She is a field bred english cocker spaniel.

If you want to get closer then don't release the dog until you are within gun range. The handler said okay way to soon.

I felt that 30 yards was well into gun range but admit we have some pretty exceptional gunners so I am a bit spoiled in that regard. If it had been a average gunner with me I would need to hold my dog much longer.

Were you on a actual hunt --or training?

Did the gunner actually shot right over your head/ Or dId it just appear that way?

It was hunting at a hunt club... They free release so we had no idea where we would find the birds.

I thought he took a step forward but looking at the video could not swear to that.
