One would think its to dry, hope we don't do the TX/OK thing this year, but one has to have doubts---there is a 125 acre grass/forest fire burning inside the city limits of Rapid City and it's only 30% contained--for heavens sake its only the 9th of MAR whats Jul/Aug going to be like. :confused:The forecast for the next week is for very warm dry conditions for most of SD and the southern part of the state is under RED FLAG WARNINGS for tomorrow.:( Well maybe it will turn around and be a normal year--at least I hope so.

It was 84 above on Tuesday, then dropped to 36 for a high on Wednesday at my place. slowly warming back up to the mid 60s yesterday. The ground shows good sign of being muddy as it thaws. That shows acceptable moisture level's to me. As long as the spring rains keep things replenished. Lots of dead dry grass is normal for spring and it burns well. Lets hope things green up fast.

As I have said. I predict a very bad storm season. Time will tell.

SDJIM, you are right. If it stays dry I predict the Hills will go up like a dead Christmas tree with all the dead pines due to the beetle invasion.

As far as rest of state goes I will take dry conditions for the benefit of pheasant nesting. That is what SD is famous for is droughty conditions and the birds lover it but farmers will squawk.
