Springer Training

I never hunted behind a springer before. It sure would be a different experience. That pup covered ground nicely in the video.

Looks like fun!:10sign:

FLDBRED: How common is that length tail, the video that is.

After looking at it again, looks like it is just shaved. Docked or not...what is more common?

Definitely docked for springers. I've never seen an un docked springer though the length of docked tails vary quite a bit.

I know they aren't the same dog but I think un docked is an automatic dq for show (bench) bred springers.

I don't think I've ever seen one undocked, didn't noticed it anyway. But watching some u-tube videos, they looked undocked, or docked long. Even one of FC's dogs looks undocked. I'm confused.

quail hound, how you been. good to be back on and seeing some familiar faces.

Like I said, tail length varies quite a bot among docked dogs. My dogs are docked short but most trial dogs have a bit longer tails, around 8-10in or so.

I've been good, hoping this weather changes so I can stop paving before valley quail season starts. I spent to much time fishing this spring and summer though so the dogs are a bit out of shape. How are things out your way?

He doesn't stay still long enough to get a good look, does he! LOL. That tail looks like the feathering is trimmed and the tail is a little long. Most of the field bred dogs should have a 3/4 length tail, although Ive seen all sorts of lengths. Unfortunately a lot of city vets cut them way to short to satisfy show standards. Personally I like them a little short!

All is good here.

Looked at FCs album again....it was the wing off a pigeon. lol
Was scrolling through his album looking for tail, that liver and white dog on the bottom threw me off. Should of blown it up, my bad.

Thank you,

Our tails are all 70% left on. Gotta have that flag flying. helps you see the dog get birdy. the show folks do the stub. No field bred or trial folks will stub the dogs. If it happens its a mistake, and most likely ends up in a very angry owner. It also helps the athletic dog while pounding the ground and making turns. At least the ones that get out and run hard and big any way. Cool video.
