Snow

I take it eastern Dakota doesn't have snow?
There was some in NC (east river) in November. Back then, there was a line a little west of Aberdeen, where there was no snow west of there and inches east of there. I am guessing warm weather and rain might have done a number on it, like it has in Minnesota recently.

These photos were from November 23rd and November 24th.

Last year I went north if Mitchell.I may try a different area.i saw some birds, and got 1,in 2 days of hunting. They were very spooky!!
I drove by a hunter last year in EC, after I got my 3. He was hunting ditches with a springer and 16 gauge. I didn't see him shoot any, but I have a feeling he did okay.

If I was a SD resident, I'd keep right on hunting through January.

Beats any kind of ice fishing.
Yeah fishing is wanker.I would hunt, but I would have it figured out,if I lived there. I have hunted there 3 times since 1990.All in different areas. One was a fondue farm, doesn't count. The other was South of rapid city, and east.Paid hunting but cheap.Last year was north of Mitchell,to the nd border.Freelance hunting, not easy.

I can't remember if you said you only hunt CREP and WIA due to non-toxic shot required on GPAs and WPAs? If so, you are missing out on a lot of good areas, especially late season, with the cattail migration. (Regarding your Mitchell trip results)

When I was out there during the week of Dec 16th there was a skiff of snow on the ground was hunting the Chelsea area.

Highway 37 south of Mitchell...I'm still not sure it gets hunted hard because the last time I was up there my non pointing lab and I got a road ditch limit with the new 28. But south of Mitchell is known for its quail so maybe not as much pressure
