Snow Hunt

Looks like an opportunity to hunt in snow this weekend. Had not planned to hunt, but now having second thoughts. Anyone going to hunt in the snow this weekend?

UPDATE: Headed north to try some walk-in with snow - just an inch. Got out in the sticks and had a low tire. Temp was 16 and I did not want to change the tire so headed for an air hose. Did not find one that worked until I was back in Topeka. Oh well, walked a small piece of cover and the dog loved being in the cold temp.

We try not to miss snow days. My buddy is bouncing off of the walls excited (as am I) for tomorrow. There's just something about being out in the snow which makes the hunting even better!

Personally, I'd say 2-5 is good. Enough to cover the ground, making the birds sit rather than run. Anything six and over, really knocks down the cover and I think it might be hard on the birds.

Now how can you get the good, deep awesome drifts with 2-3 inches? Naw you need a half a foot to get the good drifts. You know the good crusted over ones that trick you into thinking you can walk on them until you get out in the middle and sink up to your nads. Then the same part that supported you on the way in, won't anymore on the way out. You can have all that crap you want. No good when you are 3 bills solid:p. I would agree that 4 inches is about right.

Heading out at 2:30 in the morning for your great state! My dad made it out last week got 1 bird, 2 flat tires and lost his cell phone, but he's ready to go back. I only made 1 trip last year due to the conditions. Mentioned to the pup Kansas and birds and he's going nuts. Gonna be a long night.

snow

any amount of snow makes it fun, like seeing the tracks, to actually slow the roosters down, ya need 8" or more. actually I think that birds feel the weather coming and even if the moisture does not arrive, the birds still react like it did

cheers

we always like hunting the day before a storm arrives. seems like wildlife senses the weather change.
speaking of the day before, my youngest tagged out tonight with a nice 8 point deer, big body. Took 3 of us to pick him up to hang. while we where waiting the mandatory 30 mins to start looking, another bigger buck walked out, walked across the stalks, head to the ground. The rut is on.

Good deal. Congrats to your boy.

I HUNTED IT!!!

It was not enough snow to slow the birds down at all, but it was beautiful and caused both hunters and dogs to act like pups.
