At 13 I found myself living with an uncle and his fam in a little rural Kansas town. Uncle chewed Copenhagen snuff which Scandinavian folks called snoose. I was sitting on the porch when he arrived home one evening. He sat down beside me, took out his snuff, and took a dip. I asked him what it was like. He held it toward me and said try some. I did. I put a pinch behind my lower lip like he did. In about 20 seconds I was lying back on the porch breathing hard and seeing stars. My first and last snuff.
