Snails?

Killed a rooster this afternoon that had a craw full of snails, he was in a dent corn food plot (granted not much corn left after deer and hogs) but there’s still some kernels on cobs on the ground.
He a had a golf ball size wad of snails and some greens…maybe he just had a hankering for escargot.

Pheasant are opportunists. They will eat whatever is on the menu. I have cleaned birds with mice in the craw. I found a snake once in a Nebraska bird. I think they scratch around and whatever they find they sample.

Last hard winter we had, like in 22, the birds were flying to the lakeshore and picking zebra muscles off the rocks . Not sure if they were doing it for the food, or the grit factor or both..

I always gravitate to the first or second rings of vegetation around water when Sharptail hunting…their diet is very eclectic, seem to focus on the little critters in muck, mud, wet soil..flushed them out of cattails many times…probably hiding when they hear us, while dining on the crustaceans….
