Small Bird Dogs

I like hearing that because I have even been considering a Rat Terrier. Decent ones are a dime a dozen down here and people are almost giving them away. You just got to make sure momma and daddy were hunting dogs. People underestimate these little dogs, but I know they can do alot of different things. They ain't no Jagdterrier (which I also hope to own one day), but I think they compare to them in ways- namely their versatility and terrier attitude.

I had some lined up but they guy had not done any shots/worming, no tails docked, and momma wasn't a hunter. I decided to pass. If I find the right litter I think I could get me a pretty good flusher for next to nothing lol.

@ beaglebob- I'm a short-haired dog person all the way, but over the last few years or so I've come to like the wire coat Jagds and Drahthaars

Have you looked into or thought about an American treeing feist? I think that might be my choice for a outside the box bird dog, either that or an airdale although they may be a little on the big side of what you are looking for.

I have also seen a APBT used as a no slip retriever in the dove fields. That dog was great and had a very soft mouth believe it or not. Ps I love pitbull terriers that is what I grew up with before I started hunting.
