Skunks!

Anybody else seeing a lot of them this year?

It's certainly not the copperheads that Toad faced over the summer, but there have been a lot of skunks around here lately. There was one on my back porch at about 5:15 this morning when I let the dog out to do her business before our run. Tess came away with only a glancing blow to the flank and the skunk escaped unscathed. Found out later that another dog two blocks away got skunked last night.

Peroxide, baking soda and dish soap fixed Tess right up. Going to have to re-think the morning procedures.

Been seeing a lot more squished on the road this year. Hopefully we'll get 'em all by november.:eek::rolleyes:

Coyotes have been driving the dogs crazy the last few days. The neighbor at the end of the road has deer feeders up which might be bringing them in. He had a bumper crop of apples this year and has been dumping them by his treestand.

Up here in Michigan we have plenty of skunks as well. On the humorous side. Last week while deer hunting I drove over to pick up my 87 year old dad and a friend at their blind. They so no deer, but did see a huge skunk which they thought about shooting. I told my dad to go ahead and shoot the skunk.... just who was going to retrieve the arrow:)

I got a real stinky smashed one on the road near my office.

Here's the bad news. I had one of these right down the road. Due to the hot, dry, very little rain fall, this guy stayed fresh from weeks! Every cool night, or a little rain he reeked. At the end he was down to a greasy spot on the road, after 4 months on the road, couldn't tell if it was a skunk or a coon, but boy howdy, a little moisture and there was no doubt. Allergy helped.
