Sept 5 - Still seeing young birds

Was out spraying some prevent plant acres yesterday and saw some decent sized young birds but am always amazed at how late in the season the youngest birds are still coming. I saw at least one bird that was within a week old. Very small and could barely fly.

Early June was wet but after mid-June we had a long warm nesting season. Right up still now.

Good luck trying to distinguish the roosters from hens on opener.

Another reason I wait until later in the season to start hunting. I get very few short tailed roosters where hunt by the time I get there. I'm not saying that I pass anything up, just seems to be the way it is.

last year on the youth opener (10/3, roughly) we saw chicks that could only fly about 10-20' at a time...the size of lemons! Goes to show how resilient these birds are, though...thank goodness!
