Self imposed rules

Inspired by some great post on another thread I started thinking about rules I have for myself. These are mostly for quail but feel free to add any you may have.

1. Never ground sluice a bird, ever.

2. No shooting down coveys of less than 12 birds (8 for mountain quail).

3. Never have more than 2 birds on the ground at once no matter how many are flushing around you. If you have 2 down stop shooting and find them before moving on.

4. Don't hunt quail after an hour before sunset, give them time to re group and find their preferred roost.

5. Give birds in arid places a safe haven around water sources.

6. And last. Name your favorite haunts and coveys so you feel a greater sense of responsibility towards them.

Please feel free to add your own so we can learn from one another.

Those are pretty good.

On the BW quail around here, I only shoot pointed birds with my setters.

Some day I am going to have to get out west and hunt some of those birds. They look like fun.

I have a few spots picked out for you and those setters. One is Californias version of big sky country, quail and chukar with room for those dogs to run.

Good rules QH,

Might add one.

Don't shoot them out of the roost in the A.M.
