I'm heading out tomorrow morning for a one day hunt. I'd like to have at least one more guy to help cover some ground and block. Dogs or no dogs doesn't matter. I had someone back out on me and I'm willing to fill that spot with a friend I haven't met yet. The 2 guys that are going are experienced soldiers and very safe with their guns (unless you're Al-Queda!!). PM me if you're interested and leave your phone number. I'll be checking the site periodically throughout the day to see if there are any takers. The snow is moving in....can't wait till 4AM!!!!

I'm hoping that the snow is moving in. Unfortunately I can't make this trip KB, I'm going to get my dad out and try to fill a few limits. Keep me updated on how you do. Good Luck

Thanks! Found someone that wants to go out tomorrow. Doesn't sound like they've had much luck this year. Hopefully it will snow and we can change that!

Green with envy!

Good luck!

We showed up a little after 8AM and there had been a light dusting of snow. Plenty cold with the early morning wind. I invited a friend from Concordia and asked him to bring along somebody that hadn't made it out this year. He showed up with an 8 y/o, 10 y/o, and an 11 y/o. Fortunately, I'd brought along a youth model 20 gauge and plenty of ammo. The first place we went to was a milo field and there were birds running across the road into it when we arrived. We got the kids out so they could see em' and about 60 birds flushed within 40 yards of us. We walked the milo field out but didn't really find anything, though that didn't have these kids down. Before we could leave for the next spot, we got stuck up to the axel in the sand and had to be pulled out by the feedtruck (the kids thoroughly enjoyed this!). We went on to have 6 roosters and maybe 40 hens flush within range and a few dog points. I spent the day focusing on gun safety as these kids had never carried a shotgun. Each of them got to shoot at a rooster and the 2 adults got to shoot AT a couple birds each. 2 roosters were rocked, but they were a bit far when they were shot at. Only one rooster flushed within 20 yards and he is in my fridge. He should've waited till I was busy with the kids to flush:cool: HA! What a great time. The kids never once whined and they all had the biggest grins on their dirty faces. We stopped for some food on our way back and my how their stories had grown;) I apologize in advance for duplicating a portion of this post in the main forum.

Green with envy again

Hunters, kids, dogs and birds, just don't get any better than that! Thanks to the gentelman that brought the new hunters! Keeps the sport alive and keeps us hunters alive just watching them and working with them! Thanks for the report,(story), glad things went well except for the gettin stuck! lol

Thanks again, Rod:10sign:

Great recap kbrit. You are a braver man than me. I'd a been able to handle one kid, but three! I'm sure they'll talk about that day for a long time. I've been on a pontoon boat with 6 first time fisherpeople and nearly lost my mind, but at the end of the day it was all worth it. Now add live ammo and you have an interesting day.

HA! Thanks for the humorous response! Gun handling is essential and I had to forget about trying to shoot one myself in order to concentrate on them.....I'm not brave enough to turn 3 of them loose with guns at once:eek:....ONE kid at a time carrying a gun is all I can handle.

Great story! As long as you've got time, getting stuck isn't that bad...I'm never too worried about getting stuck as figuring out how to get out can be just as fun as getting stuck in the first place. I guess that's just the kid in me.

Anyhow, way to go on introducing a few young guns. They'll rememer that day for years to come.
