San Carlos Vest - Questions

Hi all, first off, I have to say that I'm a huge fan of the Wing Works Vest. Top notch vest IMO. But, and there's always a but, I'd like to get a lighter weight vest for hotter weather. It can get plenty hot here early in the year for Sharpies and Ringnecks for that matter. I'd like one that's close to the WW in regards to storage and function.

Been looking around and the closest one I could find would be the Quilomene San Carlos. So, here's my questions:

1) Is the SC cool in hot weather?

2) Is the vest a quality piece?

3) Would you suggest the 8"x9.5" shell pockets (I don't want to have shells falling out every time I bend over) or the bigger 8'x12"?

4) Which is a better choice, the Y or H style straps?

And any other comments you have.

Thanks so much!

Greg

gjw, I was wondering what you have found out? I'm shopping for a vest right now and there are so many styles and options that I can't make my mind up. And, for what they cost, I'd rather not make a mistake!

Hi, well I ordered one and it's on the way to me. Should be here in a couple days. I'll give you the run down when I get a good look at it.

Like I said, I wanted something for hot weather and as much as I love my Wing Works, it is a bit warm early in the season. I hope this will fit the bill.

Best,

Greg

Have you tried using the Vest with no shirt, Short cut-offs, boots without socks. That will keep you "cool." Trust me. Will get rid of that Farmer John Tan quickly.

I have one of the older models of the San Carlos. I have no complaints on it, fits really nice and is very adjustable. The birds do not slap you in the but as you walk. Mine is the y model, that's all they offered when I bought mine 5 years ago or so, sits really well on the shoulders. I think mine has the smaller pockets, again there were no options for different sizes then. I have never had an issue with dropping shells, I don't have the shell holders either. They just sit loose in the pocket. The shoulder straps are made out seatbelt material, I don't see it falling apart or tearing for a very long time.
Hope this helps out, I would buy another one no problem

The vest isn't hot at all, I have used it over a t shirt many times and it breathes really well

Say, I think you have something here, never thought of that. I may just got the "Naked and Afraid" route, just the vest!

Of course, you may get some looks when you stop for gas or what not!

Be Good!
