Hi there, long time reader/first time poster thanks for all the info guys!

We are planning a trip to North Russell county the first of December. We have some acess to private land. I have never hunted this area before, has anyone else? what can we expect as far as #'s? Also are there any good eat's/ drinks around ? See you in the fields

yeh only from a guy from Missouri :) cockslayer I am originally from Mo. and my sister went to college there in Springfield and I use to love to go visit her, would pull up to her place, talk a little , eat some lunch then me and dad was off to the Bass Pro shop. really a great place to shop.

I have hunted that area for 20 years and it will have good numbers of both pheasants and quail depending on what terrain you hunt. It has hilly terrain, creek bottoms and open areas so it depends on what land you have to hunt. As far as eats go to Linda's in downtown Lucas, Gene is the owner and ask for a bud on draft. It will be the coldest beer you have ever had. Gene has it down to a science, and he uses the old bud 16oz mugs. Its only open Thursday-Saturday.

Enjoy, zeepo

Plus the draws are a $1.50 each, at least they were last year. Good home made soup and chili too. The hunting around Wilson lake can be good too.

Zeepo I'm getting thirsty.

I hunted that area last year and saw decent numbers of pheasants. Saw more quail there than I did in SE KS. You'll do fine.

Melody's in Russell

Meridy's in Russell is a great place for a drink and steak. It's on the west side of the road just north of the interstate.

Russell County

Has Anyone been out that way this year? How were the bird #'s, how much of the crop was out? We are heading to Luray on December 3rd. We are paying to stay at a farmhouse and hunt private ground. Do you think most of the milo will be out by then. Also has anyone hunted near OSborne or Natoma? We will definatley go to both Linda's in Lucas and Meridy's in Russell thanks for the advice guys!

When we drove thru there most of the crops are out and will be by then. You will be there during the deer season so wear lots of orange. We went to Lindas on the drive out, chilli and beer were great.

Meridy's, that must be the place we ate at one night. The guy we rented a house from told us we had to eat there one night. I hope I remember this right, seems they offered two sizes of steak, a 22oz. or 33oz. They must of been 3 inches thick. Probably nothing to you guys that live out there, but it was the best steak I've ever eaten.

Oh, that is known as the appetizer plate around here.:)

Russell

We go to Russell every year.... We went for opening weekend.... The numbers are up from the last few years.... The quail population has more than doubled in the last 5 years.... There is a lot of new WIHA.... So if you do not have private land there is a lot of other options.... We had 6 guns and 4 dogs and on saturday we had our limit at 1:30.... Was expecting a good day on sunday but when we woke up it was pouring rain.... We will be going back the second weekend in december if anyone would like to join.....

Osborne

just got back from Osborne 2 days ago on private land,,limited each day although two days took 8 total hrs. Great time would recomend to anyone thinking of going..try Gasper Farms John great accomadations , you can put your boots on ,walk out back door and start hunting..Had a BLAST..will be back next year.

Has anyone tried the 72 OZ. steak at the Big Texan in Amarillo? I am over there every couple of weeks.
