My brother called me to tell me that he was looking at 17 Roosters in a field across from his house in Wichita. I guess there is some urban pheasants for restocking out West!!! Wrong sex though!!! Said he only ever see's a couple there now and again but with the cold and snow they showed themselves. He does have a few Wheat fields on 3 sides of him, but it is in the city limits now.

Does he live on the west side?

Kansas & South Dakota Fish and Game Dept's experimenting with Viagra.

Someone should start one of those spoof type threads like the ones you see where a 600lb mountain lion has been shot in downtown Denver or such, only this one is the story that Kansas and South Dakota fish and game departments are experimenting with Viagra laced food plot supplements.
That could explain the large concentration of Roosters at your brothers place.

My wife is from the Wichita area, and I'm pretty sure your brother meant to say "Canada Geese" instead of pheasants, and also meant to say 1700 instead of 17.

We live on the fringe of our city, and really enjoy hearing quail and turkeys. Having wildlife in our own backyard is a real treat (except for the copperheads and chicken eaters). I'm sure your brother feels the same way!

SSHSHHHSHHHHH!!! And yes, great decorations Troy!!!

Not sure how long hes lived in Wichita, but Im guessing he lives NW or over west off of Kellogg. Believe it or not the area in NW Wichita where New Market Square, the Warren Theatre/ Reflection Ridge Developments are at used to be chock full of pheasants/quail in the 90's and early 00's before the wetlands were drained and all the farmland cleared off. Used to be full of sandy soil/plum thickets and a few old farmsteads.

Still one old guy left at 37th Street and Im sure the developers are just foaming at the mouth for him to die. Hes been there since I can remember but Im guessing hes keeping that last piece of land until him and his wife die.

I dont think Im that old yet but used to be at 21st/Maize the only thing there was the 7/11, the grass farm and a few houses and then nothing till you got to 21st/Ridge Rd. How times have changed.

There's still a few pockets but they are mostly gone and as others have stated Wichita is full of sky rats.

I think he lives between Maize and 119th. He is a Kansan now! He has lived more of his life there then here! Going on 30 years now!! There are plenty of the Flying Carp here as well!!! probably 50-60 thousand in a 30 mile radius. Saw about 7-10 thousand in one field last week. They almost went end to end in a mile field!!! Bought my stamps last week so maybe I should do my part and shoot 4 a day! Lots of Big Birds here now!! The little ones have moved on for the most part.

I have seen birds fly across I35 on more than one occasion and have killed birds in Oklahoma just south of there. Why should one be surprised there are birds around Wichita? There are probably more in that area now than out west.

There's more geese this year than I can ever remember, and the DOW raised the limit to five birds a day this year!
