My Hunting Priorities have Changed

Having arrived in the afternoon if not the evening of life, I too have lost some interest in getting limits and outshooting my companions in the field. But I am as interested as ever in hunting. I just have new priorities. I want to see my buddy, who surprised me this year when he told me that he has never shot a pheasant despite hunting several opening weekends with me, get one in his bag. I am thrilled that the foster master of my rescued Brittany is finally able to come out to Kansas from Ohio to hunt with me this year. I want to stay healthy so that I can walk the uplands with gun in hand and dog afield because I feel damn alive when I do, and sometimes I think that if my next step is my last one, it will have been a good one. I like walking the family land of my old friend who travels far to do so, leaving his unique troubles behind for a brief period of tranquility.

Although I strive for a limit everytime out, it doesn't diminish the time I spend outdoors with pups and friends should I not succeed. The way I look at it, a limit proves I did everything right........picked a good area, the dogs found the birds, I made a good shot dropping the bird, and the dogs made a good retrieve

I have a great time out everytime, but a limit just means everything came together that day  And most of the time I don't limit, so it makes those times I do that much more special :)
