How has everyone been doing in the Resident Only season thus far? Five of us hunted the same Game Production Area Saturday and today and got our limit both days. A lot of young birds.
These were the first pheasant hunts for my 10 month old Brittany. I did have her out sharptail hunting four times but the sharpies were few and far between. It is amazing to watch a young dog progress each day. Almost minute to minute. The natural abilities start to take over and they are figuring things out as we walk through a field. She made several nice points and retrieved several nearly to hand, dropping them 5-6 feet short of me. Most impressive was the last walk. One of the guys had just shot our final bird and we are several hundred yards from the road. I saw her pick up a scent and start following what was obviously a running bird. She tracked it for nearly 200 yards before going on point. It ended up being a hen but that didn't matter as it was how she handled that bird that made me proud. It's going to be a great year!
