I had my female Brittany, Bree, spayed last Friday and her recovery seems to be going quite slow. She seems fine while laying around and hasn't bothered her stitches too much. But when she gets up to walk is when she appears to have a problem. As she walks she takes one back leg and attempts to scratch at her abdomen. As soon as that leg comes down her other back leg is doing the same scratching and it alternates back and forth. Then it's like a bee bit her in the rear end, she whirls around biting at her incision and then lays on the floor or ground. it really seems that the incision and stitches are really bothering her. Two days ago she seems to be in some pain so she was put on a pain med and that situation has improved. Took her back to the vet this morning and everything seems be just fine. The incision is healing nicely, no temp and no sensitivity in her abdomen. The vet feels that the incision and stitches are bothering her and the condition should calm down in the next day or two. Stitches are coming out on Saturday. I don't ever remember having any issues with my previous females when they were spayed. But, they were both younger (less than a year old). Bree turned 2 on the day of her surgery. Just wondering what other's experience has been with their females in the days after being spay.
