rattlesnakes

snakes and damn snakes

I have hunted n. e. Colorado and n.w. Kansas for about 40 years and have yet to see a rattlesnake. during dove season, they may be more of a risk, but not likely to ever see one pheasant hunting. sure they are out there but that has been my experience and I hunt more than just a little bit

cheers

I thought you were talking about pheasant season. Yes you can run into them this time a year. A rancher friend of mine killed nine putting up fence about a 1/4 mile long in August.

thats' NOT what I wanted to hear...lol I'm just worried about my dogs. Vets are quite a ways away from where I'll be hunting. I talked to wildlife biologist and he said what I'm likely to see are Mannisaguas...if that's how you say it.

You don't see many in the eastern 1/2 of the state.
I have seen 1 in 30 years, and it was a little Prairie Rattler.

Have fun. go hunt and don't worry about it.

SOUNDS GOOD to me Steve...too bad you can't meet up with me and the dogs.....would love to watch your white dogs rip up the prairie:thumbsup:

They're out there if its warm. If there is a prairie dog town, there will be rattlesnakes. Been rattled at in western Kansas and western Nebraska.

I shot one on a warm opening weekend of pheasant season in Cheyenne County a while back. Farmer I hunt on out there stepped on one and got bit a couple of years ago....it didn't rattle....at first he thought he got stung by a bee....then he saw the snake.
They are around for sure.
