Ran the dogs in the morning

I was up early today and took the dogs out to run before the heat and humidity gets too bad. I released some quail from the johnny house yesterday and since some of them stayed out all night I thought the dogs would have a good chance to work some of the birds. The first group of quail were in a brush pile.

Blitz on point.

The next group of quail were on the edge of a field of warm season grass.

Nittany on some quail

After the first two finds the dogs ran around for a bit. When I rounded the bend the two dogs were on point at the edge of the woods. There was a single quail in there.

The dogs and I are looking forward to cooler weather!

You have a couple of like looking V's.
We haven't seen green grass around here for a month, its been so dry and hot.

Thanks. Both dogs have the same father.

We were lucky to get some rain Friday night and Saturday morning. But things have been hot and dry here as well. I'm hoping for more rain later today.

I had the dogs out again today for another run. Nittany started out with a point on a single quail:

The bird must have been in the cover pretty good because I couldn't flush it. But I did see some fresh feathers in the grass. I moved on after a couple of minutes. Nittany ran ahead of me and when I rounded the bend he was backing Blitz:

Blitz must have been on point on another single while I was up with Nittany. Blitz did a nice job of holding point on this bird while I was up with Nittany on his first point.
We found a few more birds that didn't hold and flushed wild on the dogs. When we were heading back to the truck I saw Nittany in the tall grass:

As I got closer I saw that Blitz was in a little deeper and was on another single:

It's nice to run the dogs but I'm still looking forward to the cooler weather.
