Hope everybody had great Christmas !!! With all the holiday buzz and city living it was time for me to get back in the outdoors . Here is a few pictures from little over hour and half hunt .We Moved three coveys. I am ready for the cooler weather and hopefully snow to see if me and the Girls can get a few Roosters pinned down . Who else is going to give it a go this coming week ?

Hey Boss they are right here !!!

We found some more !!!

The result of a little over one hour and a half hunt . Its always fun when things work out . We could have taken another bird to fill our limit but it was as much fun watching the dog work , a flight of honkers and Mallards and as I was ending my hunt seeing a distant flock of Prairie chickens sail into the field I just walked .

We made it out for just about same amount of time today before the rain came. We only moved 2 coveys and only took one from each as I have limited spots to hunt close by so I try and really manage the number of birds taken so as to be able to continue to hunt these coveys later in the year. I did have some great dog work today which is all I really care about anyway. I was able to get a couple of pics today with one being the 1st time that my youngest has backed the older dog which just happens to be his pops.

Another solid point by the old man.

I'm planning on heading out one more time this season to try and corral a couple of pheasants. Hopefully some cold and snow will make them a little more cooperative than they have been.

Any first hand weather reports anyone want to share?

Got the pup acclimated to snow birds this week. Heading to CO next week to try our luck. It is going to be COLD.

Good stuff right there , Jet perfect conformation and style on point . I have been wanting some snow and cold to coral a group of pheasants that haven't been very cooperative . Sounds like the snow is coming from the south .

Fryman great picture of your wire hair !!! He / she looks very happy with himself !!!

I won't be bothering the quail if this snow and cold lingers. They have enough to fight without me breaking them up and causing extra stress. I will probably make forays to push some roosters. I took my first one two days ago, the first opportunity I've had. Worked a quarter of filter strips around milo and cane stubble. Worked scent over half way around only to see 3 roosters and a hen flush individually 150 yards in front of the dogs. Tracked right past where they lifted and continued on for another half mile in the strips before the grass turned to go around a draw of locust. Bodie cut across my line and pointed right in front of me. The rooster lifted silently to my left and I put the Benelli bead in the right spot. Ivy got to waller her first long tail! She'd been trying to lock the sucker down for about 1.75 miles! Good payoff!

Good dog !!! I sometimes thinking there tracking turkeys when we trail that far , and then up comes a pheasant . That's some real good dog work !!!

Just got back from making the same circuit with Trapper and Rooster. Moved the covey on the west side but didn't want to pressure them in the weather so no shot. We were working with the wind, so no point. Started birds on the south side and again tracked to the same place they flushed 2 days ago. I took 1 shot in the wind, but hard to shoot a jet with a spit ball. Moved 6 pheasants there in about 50 yards, but they were on to us and kept their distance. I'll keep after them. They'll get a dose of Sage one of these days and get invited home for dinner if I can fulfill my part.
