Quail opener

I take it your down in AZ? The few times I've hunted in October down there the snakes have been everywhere, especially the rocky south facing hillsides.

Yes I'm in AZ, right now. Yes South facing rocky hillsides. Snakes outside, their dens, sunny themselves. You see one better look around for his buddies.

Did pretty well this morning. Moved 3 coveys, maybe a hundred or so birds, and harvested 15 in about 4hrs before it got to hot. Had some great dog work in the heavy cover and some good retrieves. JP gets better every year and never ceases to amaze, his e collar broke last year and I never need to buy another.

Went out to O'neill forebay this morning. Turns out they are doing field trials there today and tomorrow so there were a bunch of people out. Didn't manage to find any birds but ran into a few deer including a pretty decent sized buck that the dog flushed about 25 yards in front of us.

QH you are lucky to have birds in the valley. We've been out a half a dozen times and have had 1 shot. There's just no water up here. Well that and the conflagration we experienced.

Hey Cdad. Yeah we found quite a few quail there at Oroville for our first try, tons of good cover. I'll be in Mendota Saturday, Yolo bypass sunday and Greylodge monday if everything works out.:cheers:

If you see my RV stop in to say hi. I'm going to Quail Point Monday as they have a Veterans Day special= 5 pheasant or 8 chukar for $100. Then going back north to finish out the week.

I tried to go to O'neil for quail opener and it had signs all over stating they were closed until.. I guess just the other day. My guess was, with all the work that was going on, there wouldn't be many birds hanging out around there. Sounds like that's what you found to be the case.

Yep. Nothing there but mosquitoes and deer unfortunately. Saw another guy walking out as we were heading out with our second dog and he didn't see anything either.
