I "kill" a deer a year (any legal small-medium sized meat deer), preferably before bird season opens (as I did this year). I "hunt" pheasant almost exclusively when conditions are suitable from Oct 1st until the season closes Dec 15th, interrupted only by a few duck hunts when conditions are more suitable for that (nor'easters). Dec 15-Jan 15 I go after corn-fattened mallards and some other waterfowl. After that, I might hunt showshoe hare once or twice, but that will be about it. This year, there is a pheasant preserve open 90 minutes from home, so I might go and spend a few bucks to scratch the itch later this winter. Then it's time for brook trout, then striped bass, then a few smallie/pickerel outings, and finish off in late summer/early fall with some mackerel/pollock/cod/flouder fishing trips, then it's full circle back to archery deer season in late September! And around we go!
