Pretty Impressive

So I spent the days after turkey day near Big Timber hunting elk, I was accompanied with my best friend and his 13 y.o. son. The son has had a pretty tough last year and a half, he was severly burned on his leg in a motorcycle accident in 2011 and found out he is type 1 diabetic this summer. I had pretty much promised him an elk this year....thinking we could get him on a cow at least, well friday we were on elk, but never were able to get close, but Sat. came and we were on some cows and a small little bull, but, as it goes sometimes, he missed a pretty tough shot....so once we got back to the pick up we went down to camp to look for turkeys...well on the way down I spotted a decent 4x5 whitetail and he was able to make a little stalk by himself with his dad and me watching through are binocs, one shot it was down...cool, this was at noon. At 2:00 we were on turkeys and he had a nice tom down at 2:30. It was getting late so we rushed to get back up to the elk....not 15 minutes into are walk, we spotted a bull and two cows, about 125 yards out.....by 3:30 he had his 5x6 bull down!!! Not a bad afternoons hunt, a bull, a buck and tom turkey...should have seen the smile on his face, it was awesome!

There will be days like that--darn few--I'm sure the young man will remember this one.

Unfortunately not, his father forgot to pack their camera, and I am not a picture taker usually...they might take some of the heads I guess, if they do I will try and post them, I wish we would have had one, he is not even my son, yet I was damn proud of him. I think his folks were going to call the Sheridan county paper in Plentwood to see if they couldn't get a little write up for him.
