I guess I haven't been paying attention, but in 2014, the SW corner of the state is closed to Praire Chicken hunting. I wonder why. I have been seeing 10x the amount of chickens to pheasant over the last 3-4 years.
 
yes I saw that quite a while ago. maybe this year will be the year I try them...trying to decide between Kansas or Nebraska Sand Hills for chickens and grouse....
 
If you're really wondering why, my guess is that it's due to the listing of the Lesser PC as a threatened species. I'm not sure I would trust myself to distinguish a lesser from a greater on the flush. But then I don't hunt them. Maybe others who hunt them regularly could distinguish them.
 
Don't think I could distinguish the two apart without seeing a few of each first. I don't think I have even seen a lesser.
