It's been tradition for as long as I can remember to hunt the pheasant opener in South Dakota. Of course, I'm from there originally, but love going back for the pheasant opener. I'm always a little weary about the temperature, because of the dogs. You never know in South Dakota, I believe it was 2-3 years ago, the pheasant opener was about 25 degrees and snow on the ground. Normally it's about 60 degrees or so. Of course, a few years ago, very sad year because of all the dogs that died in SD, when it was 85 degrees. I also turn around and hunt over Halloween weekend, temperature is usually in the 50's and even 60's. Dakota, my lab definately prefers it cold.
