PF State Habitat Convention?

Anybody else going to this thing? It runs most of the day on Saturday the 8th at the Great Plains Nature Center in Wichita. There's also a reception on Friday evening and a banquet Saturday evening.

I'm going to the habitat part on Saturday.

See details, including a link to the agenda for Saturday here:

Matto, make sure and try to catch Randy Rodgers' talk. He's the real deal! Should give you a lot to think about. I'm debating going or not. It's right in the burn season around here and without any added help, I need to save as many hours to light fire as possible.

I read the piece on him in the KDWPT magazine. It sounded great so I was excited to see his name on the agenda. Long story short, I already had that one highlighted.

Kind of surprising that only SetterNut and I seem to be going from this bunch. 80+ views on this thread and no one else says they're going. Guess I'll be able to get all my questions answered...

Went to the convention yesterday.

There was a lot of good stuff covered. Prescribed burn, and 30 tips in 20 minutes were two of the sessions that I really liked.

Its worth going to if you get a chance next year.

Didn't you win some sort of award while you were down there? :)

I was there too. Frankly, most of it was a little thin. All the chapter business/national business stuff I could have done without. I was there to learn about habitat. From that point of view, I could have listened to Tom Turner and Randy Rodgers for several hours each.

Randy, in particular, has forgotten more about pheasant and quail habitat than most people will ever know. His half hour was the best, by far. Tom's was good too, and perhaps a little less "academic".

Pittman was kind of interesting too, but his main objective seemed to be the on-going defense of KDWPT's insistence that there is no scientific reason to shorten the season or reduce bag limits. I'm not sure he convinced me.

That was the first one of those that I have been to.

Did you go to the dinner? We cut out after the awards and after the first couple of items got auctioned. We were sitting at one of the middle tables right next to the table that won all the guns.

I did not go to either the dinner/banquet on saturday or the cocktail reception on friday. Living in Wichita it was just too easy to go the parts that interested me-the habitat stuff-and skip the rest. Also, I had previously committed to go to the Marion county QF banquet in Florence that Saturday night.
