For me it's all about the dogs! Love to watch their excitment and enthusiasm when we go out. It's what they where born to do. I wouldn't even go out pheasant hunting with out one of my dogs.
 
Jeff, I retired from writing when the newspaper owner died in 1999. The paper just folded and that was the end of that. I did write my Walleye Column for 15 years. But I was allowed to drift into topics of the day, Fall Hunting and such. I really missed it for a while. Now you couldn't pay enough to get back in it...........Bob
 
For me it's a combination of things but for the most part it's the dog work.
I really enjoy spending time on the great plains... love the wide open spaces, the clean air, the night sky and the abundant wildlife there.
Also look forward to seeing many of my old friends each season...the generous farmers who allow me to hunt their ground. I've hunted some of their properties for over twenty years now.
Lastly, each season I make an attempt to hunt a new area....prospecting for new opportunities and seeing new country is all part of the fun.
