Pain killers for Dogs

Little Brit

New member
I'm hunting my 12 yr old Brit. We went out 2 days last week and her age is starting to show. I can see she is hurting is their anything I can give her to help with her pain.

Rymedyll (sp?) is the best. Can't give it to them for a long period of time (like 7-10 days in a row, I think) but it'll have em feeling right. Ask your vet about it.

 It's spelled Rimadyl. Good stuff. I get the 100 mg. chewables and break them in half. I give 1-2 half tablets per day as needed during the hunting season to my older dog.

Deramaxx is another NSAID vets use quite frequently along with Rimadyl. Generally if one is not tolerable to any given dog the other one usually is.

Personally, if the arthritis is not severe, I'm a firm believer in trying the Glucosamine supplements first. In fact starting when the dog is still arthritis free as in middle age to maintain the condition of the joints is probably the best option. Synflex a liquid Glucosamine supplement is really a good product. I learned of Synflex from FCSpringer who uses it as well. Cheaper than the NSAIDS and worth a try IMO.
