Hey guys,
Well I took my 1 1/2 year old vizsla for his and my first ever hunt. We have been training now for a few months and Friday we got out to a preserve here in Michigan to hunt.
He did really well, I was pleased...he tracked a few birds at least 500 yards to the end of the field. We only got 1 bird, mostly due to my poor shooting. This was the 3rd time I fired a gun ever, so I guess it's not too bad. I went 1/5 in terms of hitting the birds. The one I shot though dropped dead and I was pleased with the retrieve he made. We are still working on it and this was his 2nd pheasant ever. Before I was using quail to train him, so he's still figuring out how to grab the bird.
Here are a few pictures, not many, but the last 2 turned out well.
Thanks to this site, I have learned a lot of info!
Nick
P.S. For anyone that followed my reducing recoil thread, the new recoil pad I put on my 870 express seemed to help. I am not sore, I also did not shoot 50 times like I did when I got the bruises.
