are you trying to ditch me???

what the heck madisonco are you looking for greener pastures:D? or are you just checking out how much competition for the public we will have:rolleyes:?

I am locked down for the opener:( I have my puppies breeder is coming from Germany to see us and her. I am stuck.

But, I think we are going to sneak away tuesday/weds. Not sure where yet.

I figured I better give you guys with labs a head start before the real dogs arrive!:p

I work the weekend, but have Monday and Tuesday off and will probably hunt both days. I don't have high expectations, but I suspect I can find one or two birds in eastern Iowa. If nothing else, I have four dogs that will appreciate the exercise.

A few weeks in I will probably be ready to make the drive south to some covers that I know hold birds.

Me and the rookie(7 mo old Brit) will be hitting up some family ground in NE iowa. not much for bird numbers that last couple years. one place we are going has been releasing 100 6 week old birds every spring for the last 4 yrs. there are birds out there - great for the dogs - but we only let the kids shoot the birds. Sunday I plan on hunting a huge chunk of public land out east of Worthington, anyone been through it. It's in the PF program, i'm more curious than anything. anything to wear the pup out, listens better that way. Happy hunting!

hey no fair playing dirty thats my backyard!

Someone told me that there are all kinds of birds around the pella area so I might try there opening weekend;)

the only pheasant in pella were in my freezer . you must be talking about sparrows and starlings sure we have plenty of them:D.

Madison COunty, you coming down with your mutt?:p

real funny mstand :). what were your dogs called? oh yes i remember MUSTERDLANDERS:eek:. tell me are they good for picnics. i guess if ya think about it that might be handy if your dog would fetch the musterd for every one;). personally i'd rather have a BEERLANDER do they have those?

MUTTsterlanders! Get it right!

Still trying to work out what to do with the young one while we duck hunt. Thinking it may be easier just to keep her home. Save the hutning with her for when it can be her and I.

I dont discriminate, I pick on everyone!

I will be hunting with Gunner lots. Just got his e-collar today so I am excited to try it out. He doesn't listen real good right now but he is still young.

Dude! DOnt get into a hurry. Listen to me. Put the collar on him everyday for 2 weeks. Let him get used to carrying the collar WITHOUT it being turned on. The last thing you need is a collar wise dog. I am serious. This is important.
My dogs have a collar routine we do. They never leave the back of the truck without putting on their "Uniform" of the day! My male still has no idea how I can reach out and touch him so far away.

Good luck

Yes, I am not going to use it for awhile. I was reading the book that came with it and it said the same thing you did.

Went out last weekend with gunner and he pointed some quail so he is learning. Cant wait for the season to open!

My Gunner and I will be hunting public in central Iowa on Opener. I'm scouting this afternoon, in fact.

Hunting central and northwest Iowa next week. Looking forward to seeing if things have rebounded as forecast. We hunted the storm Lake area with fair success in the Past....lots of ground but mostly hens in the Spirit Lake area a couple of years ago

Anybody else hunting next week?

opener

I will be hunting Sat in Eastern part of the state, then on tues I'm heading to the NW part of the state for 4 days of chasing birds. Then off to SD for week in Nov.

My pheasant plans just got worse. I got a call today that I am having a Bitch come visit with Max. So, that will be at least a week of no hunting.:(

Try to save us a few will ya Iowalabs!
