Opening Weekend Hunting Reports 2015

Went out last saturday.

Sussessful hunt. 60 birds. Went everywhere from west of Missouri River to east of Missouri River. Found more birds south of I-90. We felt as a group the overall numbers were not up 46%. Maybe fairly flat to LY or up a tick. Most hunters were not having success. Felt hunters were still down to years past.
All the corn coming down was a great help. Should be some great hunting in the weeks to come.

Had fun anyway
Hunted about 40 miles SW of Sioux Falls opening weekend thru the next Tues. Hunted private land mostly, 1st day 12 hunters (about 6 too many for the spots we hit) and killed 14 roosters, next day 6 hunters and 6 birds, next day went to Mitchel to fart around and buy stuff for the kids, but drove north and did some road ditch hunting later up around Woonsocket, killed 2 roosters. Saw a lot of birds up that way but had no idea where to go, we just did it on a whim. Final day the 6 hunted again on the private ground mostly and got 14 I think. We had 2 dogs most of the time. I admit that the majority were "put out" birds, but they flew good and eat good. Not a big pheasant number area but its where we go and we have great people to hunt and stay with. The locals in SD seem to be really good people who enjoy the visitors. This is my 5th trip in the last 20 years or so.
